About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and hardworking Food Service Assistant to join our Catering Services team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This role plays a vital part in providing food and beverage services to patients while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering food and beverage services to patients at ward level.
- Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in food preparation areas.
- Conducting daily cleaning tasks, including hard floors, equipment, and fixtures.
- Replenishing disposable commodities (soap, gel, hand towels).
- Removing waste from ward kitchens.
- Informing patients about food options and handling ad-hoc requests.
- Using electronic ordering devices for food orders.
- Liaising with nurses, caterers, and dieticians to ensure patient needs are met.
- Monitoring patient food intake and reporting any concerns to the Nurse in Charge.
- Gathering feedback on patient food service experiences.
- Providing information to the next shift’s assistant, ensuring seamless service.
- Storing food according to guidelines and food safety regulations.
- Providing a selection of hot and cold beverages.
- Ensuring a regular supply of fresh water to patients.
- Serving meals in an appealing manner, offering second portions if needed.
- Providing appropriate food for special dietary requirements.
- Identifying and ordering appropriate meal choices to meet patient needs.
- Moving food to wards and relevant departments (RDU).
- Maintaining adequate stock levels of food items.
- Reporting shortages of crockery and cutlery to the Facilities Team Leader.
- Ensuring adequate crockery and cutlery is available.
- Safely using cleaning equipment.
- Preparing patient eating areas (day rooms/bedside tables).
- Promptly cleaning cutlery, crockery, and eating areas.
- Cleaning all surfaces and equipment according to cleaning schedules.
- Completing required cleaning paperwork.
Skills and Expertise:
- Food service experience (desirable, but not essential).
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
