About the Role:

Our client seeks a highly motivated Product Development Engineer to join their successful projects & design team. This role is focused on delivering innovative design solutions for existing and new products within the mechanical handling equipment sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop innovative products using SolidWorks, adhering to specifications and design directives.
  • Continuously improve existing products and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure design quality, continuity, and adherence to regulations (design, health & safety, operation & maintenance).
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D models.
  • Produce supporting documents (manuals, health & safety, technical specifications).
  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) within the company ERP system.
  • Ensure designs are fit-for-purpose, innovative, and value-engineered, supporting manufacturing efficiency.
  • Maintain up-to-date product drawings and parts databases.
  • Develop and maintain standard product offerings.
  • Support design review processes.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for products.
  • Challenge existing designs and manufacturing methods.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, project engineers, and sales teams.
  • Ensure products meet business requirements, from design to commissioning.
  • Act as a facilitator for processed sold standalone products, liaising with internal departments and clients to ensure successful order execution.
  • Ensure contracts are completed within cost estimates and time schedules, achieving customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and protect the company’s position.
  • Develop and maintain a filing system for standard products.
  • Adhere to company procedures, including quality assurance standards.
  • Maintain safe and clean working areas, observing health & safety regulations.
  • Attend and host meetings, and site visits as needed.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Proven experience as a Design Engineer or Product Engineer.
  • Expertise in sheet metal and fabricated product design.
  • Experience in special purpose machinery design (desirable).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 2022 (sheet metal and weldments).
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2D.
  • HNC or equivalent in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinking.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Flexible and dependable.
