About the Role:

This role encompasses technical governance for large-scale HVDC projects, typically valued between 700M and 2000M, driving technical resilience and supporting net-zero ambitions within SSEN’s Converter Station and Cable System work packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical governance throughout project development and execution.
  • Manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, ensuring adequate technical support and guidance.
  • Manage safety and technical risks through proactive identification, understanding, and control.
  • Own and execute the Design Management Plan (DMP).
  • Lead a team of staff engineers and specialist consultants.
  • Implement robust stakeholder management plans for effective communication and reporting.
  • Approve project quality plans and ensure resources for quality interventions.
  • Promote and manage safe working practices, safety-in-design, and CDM procedures.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Degree in engineering (preferably CEng)
  • Proven experience in large capital infrastructure project design/engineering management (from a contractor or client organization)
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Understanding of complex technical issues and ability to translate them into clear recommendations for senior management
  • Proficient knowledge of electricity networks and pertinent industry legislation (e.g., CDM, ESQC)
