About the Role:

This full-time Haematopathology Specialist Doctor position offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team within the Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (SIHMDS) at Nottingham City Hospital. You will play a key role in HMDN’s expansion to provide a fully integrated regional service, utilizing your diagnostic expertise within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting bone marrow aspirates, trephines, and flow cytometry.
  • Contributing to lymph node biopsy reporting.
  • Collaborating with scientific staff to triage bone marrow samples and oversee test ordering.
  • Developing a specialist interest in diagnostic areas, teaching, or research.
  • Liaising with laboratory services and clinicians.
  • Attending MDTs (Multi-disciplinary Team) meetings.
  • Training Resident doctors in Cellular Pathology and Haematology.
  • Contributing to teaching programs.
  • Assisting with policies, SOPs, audits, and educational materials.
  • Participating in NEQAS programs, UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation.
  • Working with Biomedical Scientists and administration to ensure efficient Haematopathology services.
  • Assisting with asset management and supporting business planning.
  • Attending meetings and participating in governance, audit, and training.
  • Involvement in laboratory management, new methods, and cancer network meetings.
  • Engaging in appraisal, CPD, and quality improvement following GMC guidelines and Trust policies.
  • Participating in audits and incident reporting.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Diagnostic expertise in Haematopathology.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Experience in reporting bone marrow, lymph nodes, and flow cytometry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with relevant laboratory software and systems.
