About the Role:

This part-time, permanent Assistant Psychologist position within the Children’s Diabetes Team at Dorset County Hospital provides vital psychological support to children and young people with diabetes and their families. You’ll work alongside a qualified clinical psychologist to deliver a comprehensive psychology service, offering support, assessment, and therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological screening, assessment, and formulation for children and young people with diabetes under supervision.
  • Develop and deliver psychotherapeutic interventions (supervised).
  • Support the delivery of psychological groups and wider interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) on quality improvement initiatives and relevant audits.
  • Analyze and interpret assessment findings with clinical psychologist guidance.
  • Liaise with clients, carers, and professionals regarding clinical information.
  • Support the clinical psychologist in delivering specialist advice to community and ward staff.
  • Maintain and update clinical databases and records.
  • Plan and prioritize clinical workload, attending meetings as required.
  • Prepare clinical materials and write reports.
  • Contribute to the development of the psychological strategy for the service.
  • Maintain clinical records and provide progress reports.
  • Support the clinical psychologist in enhancing the psychological skills of the diabetes MDT.
  • Participate in relevant team and inter-agency meetings.

Skills and Expertise:

  • BPS-accredited degree in Psychology conferring graduate basis for registration.
  • Passion for working with children, young people, and families.
  • Experience as an assistant psychologist or relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of psychological assessment tools and techniques.
