About the Role:
This leading importer and distributor of Greek food and wine seeks an experienced Bookkeeper to support and report directly to Directors. The role involves all bookkeeping duties, with some accountancy responsibilities, and the opportunity to grow into greater responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of bank accounts (main, euro, PayPal, credit card, etc.).
- Posting bank transactions to correct budget codes.
- Cashing up till and petty cash.
- Reconciling online platforms/eCommerce transactions.
- Extracting monthly trial balances.
- Daily processing of invoices, credit/debit notes, and payments.
- Weekly review of sales and purchase ledgers.
- Matching customer and supplier payments.
- Managing credit control and chasing late payments.
- Liaising with customers/suppliers to resolve discrepancies.
- Sending customer statements at month-end.
- Setting up new client and supplier accounts.
- Updating and managing cashflow.
- Managing petty cash.
- Processing expense invoices.
- Checking statements.
- Adhering to accounting principles and regulations.
- Preparing and submitting payroll, making payments, and sending pay-slips.
- Submitting pension submissions.
- Administering employee leave.
- Freight allocation.
- Alcohol Duty Journal processing.
- Nominal ledger journal entries.
- Resolving miscoding and other accounting issues.
- VAT quarterly reporting.
- Reporting to management on AR and AP performance.
- Proactively highlighting potential AR/AP concerns.
- Assisting with preparing financial statements and reports.
- Collaborating with management to streamline accounting processes.
- Providing assistance with tax preparation and compliance.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
Skills and Expertise:
- Qualified Bookkeeper (e.g., AAT levels 2 & 3, ACCA, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Team player.
- Open to learning and professional development.
