About the Role:
As an Operational Support Officer in York, you’ll be a key member of a team responsible for the day-to-day running of HMP Littlehey. Your role will involve a variety of essential support services to maintain the smooth operation of the prison.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform gate/portal duties, ensuring secure entry/exit of staff, visitors, and vehicles.
- Conduct searches of individuals and vehicles.
- Issue and collect staff keys/radios.
- Operate radio systems and monitor CCTV, reporting suspicious activities.
- Book and process visitor appointments, providing escorts as needed.
- Monitor and log mail, reporting contraband or illicit items.
- Maintain cell security during night shifts.
- Assist in reception tasks, including prisoner photography, documentation, and property processing.
- Supervise prisoners as required.
- Undertake prisoner clothing/property exchange.
- Deliver and collect food trolleys, potentially using electric vehicles.
- Transport prisoners and escorts, and collect mail from local sorting offices.
- Monitor the prisoner PIN phone system, documenting all calls and verifying legal numbers.
- Adhere to national and local policies, responding appropriately to emergencies.
Skills and Expertise:
- Excellent communication skills (spoken English).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with security procedures (desirable).
- Experience with CCTV systems (desirable).
- Physical fitness and ability to work shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
