About the Role:

Manage building and fabric maintenance services across two Newcastle hospitals, ensuring proactive and reactive maintenance is delivered efficiently and effectively. This role requires a Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Building Supervisor and building fabric team to ensure timely and quality task completion.
  • Manage specialist subcontractors for planned preventive, reactive maintenance, and minor works.
  • Manage emergency major repairs, ensuring contract compliance.
  • Act as a group leader, deploying staff, and managing resources (stores, materials, transport).
  • Achieve productivity, quality, and discipline standards.
  • Encourage cooperation and teamwork across disciplines and with hospital staff, resolving complaints as necessary.
  • Supervise building fabric tasks for smooth workflow.
  • Manage and maintain fire doors.
  • Conduct surveys of hospital properties and report on condition.
  • Maintain and improve work carried out on preventative maintenance (PPM) basis.
  • Regularly check equipment and machinery used by supervised staff.
  • Handle general administrative duties for the section.
  • Interpret and work from daily work orders, instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Diagnose and repair building fabric faults and share knowledge.
  • Understand building fabric workings and instruct others.
  • Liaise with the projects team to ensure work continuity and plan work in advance.
  • Adhere to relevant standards, legislation (including H&S), technical memorandums, British Standards, and best industry practice.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the role or Mitie management.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Recognized fabric/building apprenticeship
  • FDIS Certified Inspector
  • Relevant BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications in building/fabric discipline
  • Desirable: HNC or HND in relevant discipline, hospital experience, operational FM experience, post-apprenticeship supervisory experience, supervisory management, technical knowledge of building fabric, excellent verbal and written communication skills, basic IT skills, ability to provide concise written reports
