About the Role:

This role requires a highly skilled and autonomous Clinical Cardiac Physiologist to provide specialist support in CRM device follow-up and implantation. The position demands proficiency in clinical judgment, and the ability to deliver expert guidance to colleagues, registrars, and consultants within the cardiology department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and physiological advice to physiologist colleagues, specialist registrars, EP/CRM consultants, and the clinical lead of EP.
  • Set and maintain standards for CRM implants, ensuring adherence to current professional recommendations and evidence-based practice.
  • Keep abreast of developments in implantable device technology across multiple manufacturers and disseminate new information to staff.
  • Comply with national and international guidelines (BHRS, HRS, EHRA, NICE, ESC, SCST) and local clinical guidelines.
  • Ensure seamless CRM device service interface with other implantation and follow-up centres, facilitating patient record exchange.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with local and national standards.
  • Participate in routine and advanced clinical investigations and procedures, including on-call responsibilities for primary angioplasty and emergency arrhythmia pathway.
  • Deliver training, mentorship, and supervision to cardiac physiologists and participate in the training of PTP and STP students.
  • Maintain and develop the local clinical physiologist training program.
  • Identify training needs for staff, trainees, apprentices, and patients and deliver targeted teaching and training.
  • Identify suitable projects for PTP/STP trainees.
  • Attend relevant courses and conferences and identify appropriate courses for others.
  • Participate in and deliver departmental seminars and scientific meetings.
  • Contribute positively to the leadership of the clinical physiology staff and the smooth running of the department.
  • Act as an independent decision-maker, responsible and accountable, supporting the Principal Cardiac Physiologists in their absence.
  • Proactively minimise clinical risk to CRM patients and manage related clinical incidents, collaborating with principal physiologists and the clinical lead of EP.
  • Assist the principal physiologist in coordinating the management of device patients subject to manufacturer advisories or recalls.
  • Independently plan and prioritise workload across days/weeks; delegate tasks and utilise workforce efficiently.
  • Monitor and respond to MHRA device alerts and field safety notices to maintain safety and compliance.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Demonstrated expertise in CRM device implantation and follow-up.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with colleagues at various levels.
  • Proficiency in managing patient care and clinical incidents.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and international guidelines (BHRS, HRS, EHRA, NICE, ESC, SCST).
  • Experience in training and mentoring.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage workload.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
