About the Role:

SRG are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join a global pharmaceutical manufacturer in Liverpool. The Associate Scientist will contribute to the development of candidate vaccine virus strains for the seasonal influenza vaccine (LAIV). The role focuses on novel approaches and scientific understanding to optimize LAIV strains and understand the requirements for vaccine effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform reverse genetic and characterisation assays to support research projects and seasonal vaccine strain development.
  • Perform routine testing to support LAIV optimisation under supervision.
  • Make detailed observations, analyse data, and interpret results.
  • Present findings at internal meetings and support the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  • Ensure activities align with site objectives and meet standards for documentation, housekeeping, SHE, timekeeping, budgets and regulatory legislation.
  • Maintain laboratory housekeeping, conduct self-inspections, manage stock control, re-order schedules and communicate with suppliers.
  • Document laboratory results accurately, neatly and promptly. Assist in the review and approval of laboratory documentation.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Minimum science degree (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular or related science). Masters degree preferred.
  • Essential laboratory experience in molecular/virological methods.
  • Experience with Cloning, PCR, and sequencing techniques.
