About the Role:

Key Responsibilities:
- Providing direct patient care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for Intensive care patients.
- Identifying and responding to evolving patient needs, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
- Organizing time, equipment, and staff to deliver safe and efficient patient care.
- Providing skilled support to medical staff and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Administering drugs and treatments per Trust Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Demonstrating effective communication within departments and the multidisciplinary team.
- Advising patients, carers, and other staff on health promotion and illness prevention.
- Recognizing detrimental situations and implementing preventative measures for patient wellbeing.
- Identifying patient care priorities, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
- Delivering high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
- Taking regular responsibility for carrying out required planned patient care.
- Reporting significant changes in patient conditions or situations to appropriate team members.
- Taking charge of the ward/department in the absence of the responsible person.
- Taking personal responsibility as a team leader for patient care delivery.
- Contributing to patient health promotion through education, support, and advice.
- Ensuring safe ordering, administration, and custody of medication.
- Delegating and supervising appropriate work to other qualified staff, healthcare assistants, and students, in the absence of senior staff.
- Coordinating discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
- Assisting with the admission, assessment, and preparation of patients.
- Escorting patients to other wards or departments as needed.
- Treating patients with courtesy and respecting their needs, maintaining confidentiality.
- Liaising with other disciplines or departments.
- Responding to emergency situations and adhering to emergency procedures.
- Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, relatives, visitors, and colleagues.
- Ensuring special equipment readiness and nursing supply availability.
- Ensuring safe custody of patient valuables and property.
- Reporting complaints, incidents, or accidents to the nurse in charge/line manager, completing relevant documentation.
- Reporting broken or damaged equipment.
- Adhering to Manual handling regulations, particularly for patient movement.
- Ensuring patient manual handling needs are assessed.
- Ensuring safe storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Ensuring availability of sharps, toxic/cytotoxic waste disposal facilities.
- Assisting with monitoring and reporting to maintain stock levels.
- Monitoring supply use by junior staff to promote efficiency.
- Understanding ward or department staffing requirements.
- Reporting sickness episodes to the Registered nurse in charge.
Skills and Expertise:
- Current live NMC registration
- Experience in Intensive Care (preferred)
- Newly Qualified or Newly Qualifying Nurses with ICU placement experience (considered)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of relevant Trust policies and procedures
