About the Role:

This role involves providing forensic psychiatric care to a caseload of community patients, managing risk, and liaising with various stakeholders. The Consultant will also assess and manage mentally disordered offenders, and those with conditional discharges. The position also offers training and on-call opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a pro-rata caseload of approximately 30-40 community patients.
  • Liaise with adult psychiatric services regarding risk management (approximately two referrals per week).
  • Conduct assessments of prisoners needing community placement.
  • Liaise with statutory and non-statutory agencies (Probation, Police, Court, Social Services, voluntary organisations) for mentally disordered offenders (approximately 3-4 referrals per annum).
  • Act as an Approved/Responsible Clinician, conducting MHA assessments as required.
  • Assess patients in low security for community placement and manage community risks.
  • Manage a caseload of conditionally discharged and restricted patients.
  • Manage all conditionally discharged S41 patients.
  • Participate in weekly referral meetings.
  • Provide training to professional audiences as needed.
  • Participate in the Out of Hours Consultant on-call rota.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in forensic psychiatry.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in risk assessment and management.
  • Proficiency in relevant case management software.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High level of empathy for patients.
