About the Role:

This Healthcare Assistant role involves assisting patients and the clinical team under the guidance of a nurse manager. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure seamless patient care, including those needing urgent attention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the clinical team in delivering patient care programs.
  • Performing clinical procedures with booked patients, utilizing clinical judgment.
  • Managing urgent patient consultations outside of scheduled appointments.
  • Liaising with various team members at all levels.
  • Embracing new ideas to enhance practice operations.
  • Conducting phlebotomy, new patient health checks, and NHS health checks.
  • Contributing to learning disability health checks, ECG recording, and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Performing hypertension reviews and administering vaccinations (flu, B12, shingles, pneumococcal).
  • Providing simple dressings and compression bandaging.
  • Performing urinalysis, processing laboratory samples, and conducting spirometry.
  • Preparing medical equipment and ensuring infection control procedures are followed.
  • Removing sutures and clips.
  • Ensuring smooth clinical waste collection and proper sharps bin management.
  • Adhering to practice guidelines and referring to nurse lead or GP for complex decisions.
  • Maintaining a professional and caring attitude towards patients.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of treatment rooms.
  • Following practice procedures and protocols.
  • Maintaining patient information leaflet and health promotion literature stock.
  • Ordering clinical supplies and vaccines.
  • Managing vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
  • Conducting weekly stock control of medical equipment.
  • Checking medical equipment calibration dates.
  • Managing computer cartridge and paper supplies.
  • Contacting helplines for technical equipment support.
  • Participating in administrative systems and maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Advising the practice nurse lead/managers about potential issues.
  • Attending and participating in practice meetings and TARGET training.
  • Undertaking other delegated duties, seasonal/special projects, and tasks as required by Partners, Nurse Lead, or Practice management.
  • Managing own time effectively.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Healthcare experience (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in clinical procedures.
  • Understanding of patient care protocols and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
