About the Role:

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks an experienced Lead Nurse to spearhead a two-year project focused on improving care for patients with sickle cell disease and other red cell disorders. This role involves developing a dedicated pathway, including an emergency department bypass, and improving access, outcomes, and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent care and a high-quality service for Haemoglobinopathy patients.
  • Support the Hyper Acute Unit in and out of hours triage function.
  • Support the training and education of Ward and Haematology junior doctor workforce.
  • Engage with other trusts to ensure local providers are aware of Haemoglobinopathy resources.
  • Develop adult haemoglobinopathies educational resources.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research, and standards of care within Haemoglobinopathy.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Extensive experience as a Haematology Nurse.
  • Proven experience in patient care management.
  • Knowledge of clinical practice, research, and standards of care in Haemoglobinopathy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Familiarity with adult haemoglobinopathy.
