About the Role:
Serco is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. In this hands-on role, you will play a vital part in maintaining the hospital’s essential facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake maintenance, servicing, repairs, and minor improvements across the hospital.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
- Participate in rotational shifts and an on-call roster.
- Actively participate in building fabric/engineering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schemes.
- Use handheld electronic technology to provide information for the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.
- Be prepared to work in high-risk areas, adhering to safety measures.
- Work overtime for emergency repairs as required.
- Provide cover for maintenance technicians and be on-call as needed.
- Undertake essential repair works, planned preventative maintenance, and fault diagnostics.
- Liaise with Site Engineer and Senior Technicians regarding equipment failures.
- Undertake fault-finding on engineering services and equipment.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections, validation, and calibration tests.
- Complete all required reports, work orders, and test certificates.
- Immediately notify the Senior Technician and Site Engineers of any deviations from regulations.
- Follow detailed engineering drawings, schedules, and specifications.
- Use all relevant tools and equipment safely.
- Undertake inspection and commissioning tests and issue completion certificates.
- Work and ensure others operate in accordance with Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTM’s) as an appointed Competent Person.
- Participate in an on-call rota.
- Be conversant with mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Be able to undertake Authorised Person, Skilled Person, and Competent Person roles.
Skills and Expertise:
- Completed City and Guilds/NVQ or equivalent in Engineering or Electrical apprenticeship.
- BTEC/ONC in engineering/building services or 5 years’ experience in a relevant role, preferably in a Healthcare environment.
- Competent person in relevant disciplines (e.g., piped medical gases, boiler and pressure systems, low-voltage electrical systems).
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- IT skills.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.

- Customer care and service skills.
- Fire Safety awareness.
