About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities Maintenance Team at HMP Maidstone. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the prison, impacting prisoners, staff, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems, including heating, water, and other equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Work effectively with diverse colleagues across trades (plumbers, electricians, etc.).
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for all.
  • Adhere to Water Supply Regulation and Legionella control measures (L8).
  • Conduct necessary maintenance tasks within time constraints.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Experience with commercial or industrial mechanical systems.
  • Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements.
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills.
  • Health & Safety knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in a related role (e.g., plumber).
