About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Secretary to support cross-speciality teams within Surgery and Medicine at Hexham General Hospital. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide comprehensive secretarial support to Consultants and wider clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial service to Surgery and Medicine consultants and wider clinical teams.
  • Manage diaries, arrange courses, arrange/minute meetings, and communicate with GPs & patients.
  • Perform advanced typing & transcription of clinical & non-clinical documents (e.g., OCR 3 or equivalent).
  • Support effective utilisation of OP clinic capacity.
  • Support management of all patient journeys, including target administration (e.g., GP referrals, 18 week RTT, Cancer 2ww).
  • Support Lead Secretary with induction/training of new staff, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Manage resources, ordering supplies & equipment.
  • Act up in absence of Lead Secretary for periods of annual leave/short-term sickness absence.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Proven secretarial experience.
  • Excellent typing and transcription skills (OCR 3 or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in IT packages.
  • Knowledge of G2 software (training provided).
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of PAS (desirable).
  • Previous healthcare experience (desirable).
  • ECDL (desirable).
