About the Role:

Join a leading cancer treatment and research centre in Manchester as an experienced ODP/Registered Nurse in Surgical Theatres, Proton and Brachytherapy department. This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care within a fast-paced, specialist oncology environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the Anaesthetic/Recovery Theatre team, demonstrating extensive knowledge in peri-operative patient care.
  • Demonstrate high standards of individual patient care, committed to evidence-based practice.
  • Competently care for peri-operative patients, assessing, planning, and evaluating programs of care.
  • Liaise and integrate with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring comprehensive patient care and a team-focused approach.
  • Develop strong working relationships and effective communication with all clinical staff.
  • Liaise with peri-operative teams to audit and evaluate clinical practice and surgical products for quality improvement.
  • Work with senior colleagues to develop practice improvement strategies based on audit findings.
  • Encourage and participate in initiatives enhancing quality care.
  • Be proactive towards change and change management.
  • Promote and maintain a supportive environment for professional development.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development, including further training opportunities.
  • Participate in the training and education of learners (including medical students and allied medical professionals).
  • Monitor the progress of learners and their practical procedure skills.
  • Demonstrate professional accountability and act as a clinical role model for new staff.
  • Ensure prescribed drugs and treatments are administered correctly and in line with Trust policy, including controlled drugs.
  • Offer support and advice to patient relatives, responding to their needs.
  • Ensure safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain clinical area cleanliness and order.
  • Maintain computerised patient records.
  • Use scan track system and track/trace medical devices in theatre.
  • Demonstrate mandatory Trust competencies and attend mandatory updates.
  • Work under direction of a senior colleague, performing theatre co-ordinator duties as required.
  • Comply with Trust guidelines, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Utilise incident reporting system and participate in incident investigations.
  • Assist in departmental audits and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines for self and others.
  • Monitor care standards and participate in care improvement initiatives through benchmarking, audit, and research.
  • Support patient and public involvement activities, leading to service improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with untoward incident reporting and near misses.
  • Promote people’s equality, diversity, and rights.
  • Assist the Senior Theatre Sister and manager in monitoring and using supplies / equipment effectively.
  • Comply with best practice in the safe use of equipment.
  • Assist the theatre manager in maintaining theatre budgets and cost-saving projects.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Current Registered ODP (or Registered Nurse)
  • Minimum 2 years Adult Anaesthetic and Recovery experience
  • Paediatric anaesthetic experience desirable
  • Teaching and assessing skills desirable
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly motivated and organised
  • Ability to work with initiative
  • Proven experience in peri-operative patient care
