About the Role:

This role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented Premises Assistant to maintain the grounds and buildings at our sixth form academy in Croydon. You will be responsible for general upkeep, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the premises, and supporting day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and order of hard surface areas, paths, and litter bins.
  • Carrying out ground maintenance tasks including grass cutting, pruning, and weeding.
  • Managing sports facilities maintenance and marking.
  • Implementing security procedures and operating the alarm system.
  • Opening and closing buildings and grounds, including call-out availability.
  • Undertaking cleaning duties as needed.
  • Ensuring the upkeep of heating, lighting, ventilation, water, and sanitation systems.
  • Conducting building fabric maintenance and improvements.
  • Reporting any defects to the Estates Manager.
  • Supporting lettings of premises, ensuring cleanliness and preparedness.
  • Performing security patrols and securing premises during lettings.
  • Reinstating the premises after lettings.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Reporting any health and safety breaches or defects.
  • Checking and maintaining fire safety equipment and records.
  • Managing deliveries and transporting materials.
  • Assisting with furniture moving and setup.
  • Handling inquiries from staff, students, parents, and the public.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, plumbing, or building maintenance preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Qualifications to A Level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation systems, and common malfunctions.
  • Experience operating maintenance and security systems.
  • Understanding of cleaning methods and standards.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting with children and young people (advantageous).
  • Sound DIY experience.
