About the Role:
This role ensures product compliance across various sectors (education, retail, wholesale), upholding quality, performance, and safety standards. The Product Technologist collaborates closely with the buying team and external stakeholders to maintain the products legal and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain Master Product Technical files (test reports, audits, assessments, artworks, MSDS, specifications, BOMs, user instructions, conformity declarations).
- Follow GSS procedures for document and product retention.
- Brief buying teams on product compliance during new range reviews, performing performance tests and providing feedback.
- Arrange and manage third-party product testing (e.g., Intertek, SGS).
- Arrange factory inline inspections, assess, and provide feedback to meet AQL standards.
- Manage factory operations to ensure production deadlines are met.
- Manage factory audits and critical path, communicating promptly about variations and delays.
- Proofread, evaluate, and rewrite instruction manuals, ensuring product packaging and labeling accuracy and compliance.
- Communicate with customer and supplier QC departments to build key relationships.
- Monitor product performance statistics (returns, complaints, reviews), providing regular updates.
- Input and maintain product data in the ERP system (UOM, weights, dimensions, quantities).
- Handle incoming product-related calls and complaints.
- Manage WEEE, battery waste, and packaging compliance, preparing and submitting data as required.
Skills and Expertise:
- Quality Management Degree or equivalent NVQ.
- Deep understanding of regulatory testing requirements for products in our range (e.g., stationery, educational, arts & crafts, electrical).
- Knowledge of standards like BS 7272, ISO 11540, REACH, CPSIA, EN 71, LHAMA, and ISO, TAPPI, and GB standards.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Prioritization and workload management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage objections.
- Strong team working skills.
