About the Role:

This part-time (15 hours per week) SEND Assistant position supports two children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) aged 3 at a London nursery. The role focuses on providing one-to-one support, ensuring the children’s safety and well-being, and enabling their progress within the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to children with SEND.
  • Maintain children’s safety and adhere to health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Deliver an appropriate play-based EYFS curriculum to support children’s individual progress.
  • Assist in ensuring the nursery meets OFSTED requirements.
  • Collaborate with professionals, colleagues, and parents to support children’s progress and implement individual education plans.
  • Plan activities aligned with early learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and liaise with parents/carers regarding progress and involvement.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with nursery aims and objectives.
  • Adhere to nursery policies, procedures, and relevant legislation (Children Act, Health and Safety, Ofsted/CSIW, National Standards).
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure equal opportunities for all children.

Skills and Expertise:

  • NVQ Level 2-3 or equivalent qualifications (including foreign qualifications with UK ENIC Statement of Comparability).
  • Strong working knowledge of the EYFS Curriculum.
  • Proven experience working with children with SEND, specifically ASD, impaired hearing, and physical limitations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents and other professionals.
  • Commitment to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment.
