About the Role:

Drive policy change impacts for displaced, vulnerable, and/or undocumented individuals within the Home Office’s Protection and Enforcement Analysis and Insight (PEAI) Unit. Develop and implement operational research models to improve system efficiency and support immigration law while providing safe and legal routes for those in need of protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Model demand for Asylum Accommodation using operational research techniques.
  • Scope and deliver new analytical requirements; build modelling capability and support HEO team members.
  • Work closely with policy and operational stakeholders within the Home Office, and external stakeholders in No10 and HMT to understand future demand for accommodation.
  • Present and summarise complex modelling and assumptions to senior stakeholders and external departments including No10 and HMT.
  • Balance a high volume of analytical requests, responding quickly to short turn around high profile asks from Ministers and No10 whilst also building modelling capability as the team transition to a python model.
  • Work with wider G6 modelling teams to understand how asylum initial decision and asylum appeals policy impact on accommodation demand requirements.
  • Engage with stakeholders and analysts across the Home Office, to scope and understand Asylum Accommodation supply requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of model development plans to satisfy requirements of Ministers and stakeholders while ensuring that the model is up to date and maintained.
  • Present and summarise complex modelling and assumptions to senior stakeholders and external departments including No10 and HMT.
  • Balance technical requirements with the needs of the business and so this role is a great opportunity to broaden Home Office network and develop strong stakeholder engagement skills.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Strong analytical skills and experience using operational research techniques.
  • Proficiency in modelling software (mention specific tools if possible).
  • Experience with data analysis, data visualization, and presentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at all levels within the Home Office and with external government departments
  • Understanding of asylum and accommodation policy.
  • Python programming experience.
  • Attention to detail.

Job Facilities/Benefits:

  • Full-time role with flexible hours, option of job share, and compressed hours available.
  • Part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days per week.
  • Occasional travel to other Home Office sites within the UK.
