About the Role:
My client, a leading manufacturer of secure communication systems, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Design Engineer to join their team in Redditch. This role will play a crucial part in developing cutting-edge hardware solutions for diverse applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and interpret project requirements to develop concept architectures/designs.
- Design and develop hardware solutions from concept through to qualification/implementation/integration.
- Ensure all customer requirements are met throughout the development process, demonstrating Verification and Validation activities.
- Support the development of test strategies and plans for formal qualification testing (including shock, vibration, EMC, Safety, etc.).
- Produce and maintain design documentation.
- Actively participate in design reviews, both internal and customer-facing.
- Support the build of initial prototypes/qualification systems.
- Provide support to other Systems Engineering Team members as needed.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturers, maintaining strong working relationships.
- Understand Project, Systems Engineering, and Business lifecycles, and the engineering activities at each stage.
- Provide support to other areas of the business as required.
Skills and Expertise:
- Experience in a Systems Engineering environment, ideally defence-related.
- Designing products for harsh environments (shock, vibration, thermal extremes) working knowledge of Military Specifications and Standards is beneficial.
- Extensive knowledge of Electrical/Electronic/Computer components and systems.
- Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals, processes, and standards.
- Good understanding of EMC, particularly in systems design.
- Experience designing for longevity and useability/through-life support, considering Human Factors and Integrated Logistics Support requirements.
- Competent at producing accurate and professional documentation.
- Understanding of configuration control, change management, and security marking aspects of documentation and drawings.
- Experience managing own work and prioritizing tasks to meet milestones.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment (mechanical, electrical, electronic, safety, human factors, security, software, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail, conscientiousness, and pride in work.
- Excellent teamwork and initiative skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Eligibility for SC Clearance.
- Knowledge of EU/UK safety and CE regulations (advantageous).
