About the Role:
This role involves providing expert legal advice, assistance, and representation to local government functions. Key objectives include managing litigation, advocacy, and ensuring the effective governance of policies within the law. The position requires a proactive and enabling approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional legal advice and services to the Council and its committees (e.g., planning, highways, licensing).
- Draft and finalize legal documentation.
- Ensure council officers and departments adhere to the Councils Constitution and Governance framework.
- Guarantee a responsive and cost-effective service to council officers and departments.
- Comply with the Councils customer care, health and safety, and equality agendas.
- Stay updated on relevant local government and legal developments for continuing professional development, and act in accordance with the Solicitors Code of Conduct.
Skills and Expertise:
- Qualified (or soon-to-be qualified) Solicitor or Barrister
- Experience with litigation procedures
- Experience with advocacy before Courts/Tribunals/Inquiries
- Strong ICT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint
